A city is made up of many parts, all working together to improve the lives of its citizens. Beautiful surroundings are essential to nurture their well-being.
A city garden tour of beautiful Statesville gardens was hosted by the commission, on June 11 & 12. The 2011 Outdoor Rooms & Garden tour was held from 10-5 on Saturday and 1-5 on Sunday. Many came and viewed the beautiful gardens to get ideas for their own yard. Funds gained from ticket sales benefit local appearance projects.
Statesville, a city with its heels in the past and its eyes on the future, must maintain a delicate balance between the frantic pace of modern construction and the historic beauty of the old city.
The Statesville Community Appearance Commission is appointed by the Mayor and charged to "initiate, promote and assist in the
implementation of programs of general community beautification in the city".
The Statesville Appearance Commission has several areas of focus. These include the flower plantings along city intersections and streets, the planted pots on the corners downtown, the appearance of commercial buildings, and the many entryways to our city via the interstates and the state and county highways.
The Commission awards seasonal Appearance Awards, for properties that enhance the beauty of out city. An annual award, "The Mayor's Cup is awarded to the owner of the most improved location.
