The planters on the corners downtown have had a recent upgrade, with some bedraggled plants removed following the difficult winter. A clean bed of pine straw was added to each one. As soon as Statesville is 'frost free', the summer annuals will be planted around the permanent evergreen 'Black Dragon" Cryptomeria. Appearance Commission members, Ellie McMillan and Anne Rhyne were enjoying the sunshine as they worked on the pots on each corner downtown, with help from Nancy Saint. In the center of each pot, the Cryptomeria Black Dragon(tall evergreen) will be permanent, with the filler plants(down low) changing for the season. In November they were planted with pansies, swiss chard and mustard. Those plants should do well in the winter. The plants that spill out of the pots are ivy - Hedera. |
