  | Jeff Archer of First Flight Bicycles joins the elite group of recipients of the Statesville Mayor's Cup Award. Mayor Costi Kutteh presented the 2010 award to Jeff at the City Council meeting. Jeff has recently upgraded his facade on First Flight Bicycles at 216 South Center Street in Statesville, as well as redesigned the interior for better customer convenience. Jeff and his staff at the bicycle shop have been very active in bringing bicycle enthusiasts to our area. He has helped develop several bicycle paths within the county. |
Jeff chose the name First Flight as it reflects the similarities between the Wright Brothers starting at a bicycle shop in Ohio and coming to NC and Jeff's career path from Ohio State University to North Carolina.
The building at 216 S. Center was probably constructed in the 1920s and previously has been a home to a five and dime store as well as an auto parts store. The ceilings are 14' tall and covered with beautiful original stamped tin. In the mid 1990s, Jeff purchased the store front and opened First Flight Bicycles in July 1995.
The Mayor's Cup is given annually by the Statesville Community Appearance Commission to an individual or organization that has made a significant contribution to improving the appearance of the City of Statesville during the previous year.
